Without a specific specification, I assume that a publication-ready translation is to be created without compromise. In this case, both the primary translation work and any required editorial revisions will be included in the respective calculation.
Depending on the intended use of a translation, special requirements regarding the form, type and style of the translation may need to be considered. In a standard / budget translation, the translator focuses on the correct translation of the source text and the final proofreading of the translation. Secondary effort for editing and further post-processing can be omitted in the context of the specification in favour of the calculation.
A cost-effective standard translation is always considered if your interest is primarily in the correct understanding of a text and thus slight compromises in terms of form and style are acceptable. In addition, I provide partial translations relating to specific passages or thematic contents of a text, and summary translations if you find the complete translation of a large text unnecessary and you have a global summary.
It is different with specialist translations that have to be prepared for publication because the challenge of adapting demanding specialist texts is great and is usually not appreciated enough. With the translation the same information is conveyed and the same effect achieved as with the original text and it reads like an original text because it is time, purpose and target group appropriate. Therefore, please always give me the purpose of a translation to avoid miscalculations and misunderstandings.
